Hitachi Introduces First Terabyte HDD/DVD Recorder
August 26, 2005
On Wednesday August 24 Hitachi introduced a hard disk drive/DVD recorder which can store one terabyte of data, or one trillion bytes, making it the world's first of its kind. The DVD recorder stores its data on two 500 gigabyte hard disk drives, and is able to record approximately 128 hours of high-definition digital broadcasting. It is expected to go on sale in Japan in September 2005 with a price tag of 230,000 Yen. Hitachi introduced three other DVD recorder models as well, with storage capacity of 160 gigabytes, 250 gigabytes and 500 gigabytes respectively. These three will be put on the market at the same time as the one terabyte model, while prices for them will start at 130,000 Yen. All the new models are said to be the first to be able to simultaneously record two high-definition programs.
